Report: Sadler moving to No. 19
Brian Hunsicker
Jul 18, 2006
Even before Dale Jarrett announced he was leaving Robert Yates Racing, there was speculation on the future of Yates’ other driver, Elliott Sadler.
The Emporia native now appears on his way out the door, too: NASCAR.com is reporting that Sadler will drive the No. 19 in Ray Evernham’s stable next year. (The ride hasn’t officially opened up, but Evernham and driver Jeremy Mayfield have recently had a falling out. Mayfield expressed his frustration at his season — he’s currently 33rd in the standings — and claimed that he never saw Evernham around the shop much. Evernham released a statement to counter Mayfield’s claims, and relations have been strained ever since.)
Aesop redux: Tony Stewart

“Wolf! Wolf! The wolf is chasing the sheep!”
The unwitting boy from Aesop’s tale has a contemporary in NASCAR world: Tony Stewart.
No matter what happens to Stewart, especially on the track, we can count on one thing: It wasn’t his fault. We’ve heard the same refrain over and over again to the point that when Stewart claims he was just an innocent bystander, it’s hard to know just how believable that is.
Stewart in trouble; Junior still comfortable

All is not lost for Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Tony Stewart.
But too many more races like Sunday’s, and all will be lost.
The situation is far more dire for Stewart, based on his place in the standings and his fortunes over the past two months.

Local forecast for

UPDATED 12:33 p.m. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory that is in effect from 11 this morning until 9 tonight. And as temperatures soar, local health officials remind area residents to take precautions to say safe in the summer heat.
A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.
The best and easiest thing to do to avoid heat-related illness is to stay indoors, said Lucy Caldwell, a spokeswoman for the Northern Virginia Region of the Virginia Department of Health.
An air conditioned room is the safest place to be when it’s hot outside, she said.
People should also remember to drink plenty of fluids, she said.
The Department of Health reccomends drinking two to hour glasses of water or diluted sports drinks each hour during hot weather.
If you have to be outside, plan your activities around the heat, Caldwell said.
Plan to do outdoor activities in the early morning or late evening hours.
Wear sunscreen, a hat and light clothing and rest frequently if you are outdoors.
“Also, remember to use the buddy system,” Caldwell said."We reccommend checking up on people. Check in on neighbors. If you know you have neighbors who are elderly or whose air conditioner is not working, give them a call.”
The elderly, young children, and people who take certain perscription medicines are most susceptible to heat-related illnesses, Caldwell said.
NASCAR in Canada? Ask a Canadian

If you caught this morning’s paper, you’ll know that Kevin Harvick visited D.C. to unveil a new paint scheme, one featuring Barenaked Ladies.
The fivesome was also in attendance at XM’s headquarters in Washington, and they admitted they haven’t been the biggest NASCAR fans. Until now, of course. (Guitarist Ed Robertson was heard to say that he followed NASCAR, but only because he enjoyed EA Sports’ NASCAR games.)
