About $73,000 in jewelry stolen at Potomac Mills
Nicole McMullin
Jul 25, 2006
NEW 12:47 p.m.
About $73,000 in jewelry was taken during a jewelry store robbery at Potomac Mills Mall Sunday afternoon, Prince William County police said.
Two people walked into Ross-Simons Jewelry Outlet about 4:26 p.m. One of them distracted a clerk as the other walked to the office of the store, said Officer John Bogert, police spokesman.
The robber in the office removed the jewelry from a safe and walked out of the store. The other suspect also left the store.
Descriptions of the robbers were not available at this time.

One last thing on Stewart; Busch, Vickers strong at Pocono races

Jul 24, 2006
A brief note on Tony Stewart, whose antics at Sunday’s Pennsylvania 500 overshadowed a sweep by Denny Hamlin and another miserable day for Dale Earnhardt Jr. (It’ll be a brief note, because railing on Stewart is getting boring; furthermore, he’s taking a beating today from most other corners of the auto racing media.)
He is so steeped in what he believes that there seems little that could shake him out of it. Perhaps a word from Home Depot might do the trick — it did last time Stewart found himself in a boatload of trouble — but even more effective might be the disapproval of his own team.
The progress of NASCAR

Longtime racing writer Rick Minter takes a look at why some folks in the South believe NASCAR has jumped the shark. By perusing more than 100 e-mails and blogs, Minter – who writes for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution – has put together the top five reasons for NASCAR’s decline.
The reasons all have a central theme: NASCAR isn’t what it used to be. It used to be Southern and blue collar, but it’s hard to argue that it is either anymore. Seven of Cup’s 36 races are held west of the Mississippi; and of the drivers currently in the top 10 in points, only three are from southern states (Jeff Burton, Mark Martin, Dale Earnhardt Jr.). And have you tried to get a ticket to a Cup race lately? It certainly isn’t a cheap affair.
But this is the price of progress.
Martin’s final chance for elusive Pocono win

Jul 20, 2006
Mark Martin makes his final trek to Pocono this weekend. The veteran, who is set to retire from full-time racing after this season, said that the 2.5-mile tri-oval is one of his favorite tracks.
By the numbers, it’s also one of the most frustrating.
The first of three pitfalls before the Chase

Jul 19, 2006
There are seven races left until all but the top 10 is officially eliminated from the chance at win-ning the Nextel Cup.
The final seven races include three potential pitfalls, where who’s in and who’s out can change in a hurry. The first obstacle is Sunday’s Pennsylvania 500.
