Forbes ranks NASCAR

It’s been pretty easy to quantify how much better Hendrick Motorsports has been this season: In points races, everyone not driving for Hendrick has a combined six wins in 16 races.
There’s a different way of looking at it, and the results are the same. Forbes’ annual NASCAR rankings are out and Hendrick doesn’t top the magazine’s most valuable teams list.
But it should.

What a liberating feeling: writing a blog without having to mention that Chevy driver who has been the focus of attention in the past six days…
Finally, onto some other stuff: Carl Edwards continues Chevy’s frustrations at Michigan with Sunday’s win.
If you remember last time a major parental holiday happened, I admitted I didn’t get to see much of the race. The same was true yesterday, as a visit with ol’ dad prevented a detailed watching of the race. (The one clip I saw was Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch battling for position, but they managed to keep from wrecking each other – though it seemed like Stewart, on the outside, gave Busch an awfully wide berth, even for wide-open Michigan.)
What they’re saying about Junior and Hendrick (UPDATED)

A few final words on Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s move, before we return to our regularly-scheduled programming:
We rolled through the bookmarks this morning to see who was saying what about Junior’s move to Hendrick.
It’s official: Earnhardt to Hendrick

Hendrick Motorsports wins the sweepstakes.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. officially announced this morning that he’ll be driving for HMS next year, giving owner Rick Hendrick three of the biggest stars in the sport in one stable. The news began circulating yesterday afternoon, though there was no hard confirmation until the press conference this morning.
Is Earnhardt’s saga finally over? (UPDATED)

The breathless reporting of Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s next team may soon be over.
Per Jayski and various other places around the net, Earnhardt has scheduled an 11 a.m. press conference tomorrow. The location will be the same as his last one, at JR Motorsports in Mooresville, N.C.
The subject of the press conference, though, hasn’t been revealed. Perhaps he just wants to say he’s putting together a second Busch team.
That doesn’t seem likely, but it is a possibility.

Forbes also has a sidebar on the
Like this: “Taken from his mother at age 6 to be raised by nannies, military school, a largely absentee (and always hard-bitten) father and (nominally) his stepmother, Earnhardt rarely experienced the simple human kindness shown him as a kid by a rival team owner, Hendrick.”
As expected, the odd man out is brash youngster Kyle Busch. Hendrick said that during the course of negotiations on Busch’s contract, he became aware of multiple teams that had contacted Busch.
That eliminates the non-Chevy teams and Joe Gibbs Racing, which has repeatedly said it would not be comfortable with Budweiser on board as a sponsor.
