A drop in numbers as Busch series heads to Watkins Glen
Brian Hunsicker
Aug 07, 2007
Scene Daily is reporting that only 39 cars have appeared on the initial entry list for this weekend’s Busch race which, like the Cup series, is at Watkins Glen.
The magazine adds that if only 39 show up in the Finger Lakes, it would be the smallest Busch field in six years.
A quick scroll through of Jayski’s Busch series info shows us that races at California, Nashville, Talladega and Dover had a preliminary entry list of less than 43 (40 at Dover, 41 at California, 42 at the other two). At Nashville and Dover, enough drivers came in to make for a full field.

More on Robby Gordon in a sec…
After Monday’s practice was over, Redskins coach Joe Gibbs took the usual question about injuries, plans for the first preseason game on Saturday, and myriad other day-to-day things. The final question was about Kyle Busch joining Joe Gibbs Racing, a widely expected move.
“Has it been announced?” Gibbs asked back.
Another media tie-in: Biffle to run with Dog

Last week, David Reutimann got to run the coolest paint scheme ever, promoting the Simpsons movie.
Greg Biffle gets into the media sponsorship this weekend at Pocono with a decent scheme of his own: Dog the Bounty Hunter.
Dog’s show on A&E starts a new season in the coming weeks, and he’s got a book coming out too. So it makes sense. The sponsorship, incidentally, is through Dish Network. (And according to Dog’s Web site, he’s making an appearance in D.C. in the coming weeks.)

It’s hard to say. The series has been dominated by Cup drivers and teams for several years. Martin Truex Jr. won back-to-back titles in 2004 and 2005, and he was the last driver to win a Busch title while not on the Cup series full-time.
It’s good to see Biffle have some sort of sponsorship; the year he’s had to deal with is unlike any in recent memory. He figured he’d be running Ameriquest all year, but when the subprime mortgage industry collapsed, he had to scramble for sponsorship.
• After winning a race, you press “X” to go through the motions at a post-race press conference, or you push “O” to make things difficult and be a royal pain — even if you’ve just won for the second time at your legendary, hometown track.
