Road trips and playlists

Keith Walker, Potomac News county reporter, cares about George Mason fans. So if you’re planning to make the trek to Indianapolis, read his article for a few travel tips and driving directions.
Walker couldn’t shed light on how much game tickets might set fans back. And for your playlists, which you will surely need for the drive, he declined to offer suggestions.
“As an old fart, I wouldn’t know anything about songs they would know,” Walker explained.
Playlist suggestions anyone?

Greetings and salutations, Patriot Platoon members (and other faithful or bandwagon George Mason men’s basketball fans)!
March Madness, indeed

Life has hovered somewhere near silly over the past month or so. Four straight weekends of high school wrestling tournaments, wrapping up that sport with All-Area, jumping straight into spring previews (baseball and girls lacrosse) and parachuting into George Mason’s postseason run.
The girls lacrosse preview page simply had to be done today; it runs tomorrow. All that while juggling multiple stories and angles from the Patriots’ final practices before they leave for Indianapolis.
I know, I know, the old newspaper adage applies: No one cares about how the sausage is made, so long as it tastes good. So no more complaining about a rigorous work schedule.
Well, just one more complaint. Our flight leaves at 6:30 a.m. tomorrow. That means being at the airport well before 6 a.m. Not a problem for most people, but sportswriters are creatures of the night. Ninety-nine percent of events happen in prime time and, therefore, we spend a lot of nights on the job.

Amidst the press coverage, the photos and the hoopla, I found this editorial cartoon from the Richmond Times-Dispatch. George Mason men’s basketball’s story has been about the team that could; just picture glass slippers on the engine.

All roads lead to Verizon Center

GEORGE MASON NOTEBOOK
To get to the Verizon Center and this weekend’s Washington regional, George Mason made the standard D.C.-area commute. UConn took a trip down the coast, while Wichita State made a trip halfway across the country.
The Washington Huskies? Though the regional sounds like it should be a home game, they had the longest trip of all: 2,800 miles aboard Alaska Airlines Flight 2. But at the end in Reagan National’s main concourse was a pleasant surprise.
